Champion Versatility
The 2006 winner of the Youth World Grand Champion Versatility Award is
Katy Griffith, from Layton, UT. In September, Katy and her 12-year old
gelding, Fox’s Power Play (“Major”), competed at the Missouri Foxtrotting
Horse Breed Association’s week-long Show and Celebration in Ava,
Missouri. They won first place in Youth Western Pleasure, Youth English
Pleasure, and Youth Western Horsemanship; 2nd place in Youth
reining and Youth Trail; 3rd place in Amateur Hunter Hack
(highest placing youth); 4th place in Youth Showmanship; 5th
place in Youth Barrel Race; 6th place in Youth Pole Bending; 7th
place in Youth Stake Race and 8th place in Hunter Over Fences.
They were honored along with the Amateur and Open Versatility World Grand
Champions at a ceremony at center ring on championship night, where they
received their championship trophy and garland.
Katy and Major also won the 2006 Intermountain Versatility Circuit Youth
Champion award, given to the youth horse and rider team who accumulated
the most points at the intermountain circuit shows and the Ava
celebration.
Katy is the 2006 National Foxtrotter Youth Ambassador; she attended shows,
horse expos and youth events around the country, promoting the foxtrotting
horse.
