  Santaquin Meadows Trail Ride

June 13 & 14, 2008

Directions to the ride:

These directions have been updated, as the cool spring has left a lot of mud, so the location has been modified.

The new location is in an area about 13 miles from the Peteetneet School turn off in Payson, at the top of the little hill, where you first enter the Nebo Loop Road. Drive up the canyon to the second sign that reads Jones Ranch.

bulletThe new location in Payson Canyon is the JONES RANCH area, about one mile above the UPPER PAYSON LAKE turn off.
bulletThere is a good sign out by the road which reads JONES RANCH and I will also place a sign out "FOX TROTTERS HERE!" (There is also a Jones Ranch sign below the Payson Lake turn off. Do not stop there! Go to the second sign! You will be able to see us just off the road in a big open area)
bulletThere is a lot of room for horses and campers, but not much grass. Be sure to bring weed-free feed.
bulletFind a nice place to camp and hunker down.  No improved facilities, bring drinking water for yourself.  There is no horse water right at the site (it's about 1/2 mile away) and there will be numerous stream crossing each day on the trail.  If you bring dry feed get the certified weed free type, possibly at Harwoods along the freeway in Springville, usually $6.00 per bale self service.  Have the correct cash!  Please call me at 801-571-3221 for questions you may have or just chat about the rides.
bulletThe Friday ride could take us into a good herd of elk, "if we are lucky".
bulletThe Saturday ride will be longer (at least 10 miles) and takes us to some beautiful areas through easy country. If there is not too much snow, I'll take the group to what I call, "Bear Country!". I found this area years ago, bears have marked up a lot of trees, etc.
bulletI will be prepared to cook hot cakes, sausages and eggs for everyone both mornings. Bring a good appetite, your friends, a good mount and a camera. Be ready for some fine experiences in the best of Fox Trotter company.
